WASME to host 22nd International Conference on SME

The global non-profit organization WASME  (World Association for Small and Medium Enterprises)  in association with S.P. Jain Global Management Education, Dubai as knowledge partner headquartered host two days 22nd International Conference on Small and Medium Enterprises (ICSME) on Achieving inclusive and sustainable Goal through Entrepreneurship Education and Innovation by promoting SMEs from 9 – 10 December, 2018 at S. P. Jain School of Global Management, International Academic City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Launching the posterThe objectives of the conference are-

  • Recognizing the significant role of MSMEs in the global economy
  • Platform to enable MSMEs to deliver their best, imbibe better business practices, and contribute to the overall growth of their home country and perform well abroad
  • International Conference on Small and Medium Enterprises (ICSME) event aligned to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to strengthen and acknowledge MSMEs’ contribution towards economic development

This year’s edition of ICSME aims to promote SME development initiatives and integrate them with the United Nation’s 2030 agenda of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by:

  • Offering support to SMEs to increase its access to entrepreneurial education and innovation by integrating them into the global value chain
  • Empowering SMEs to contribute effectively to their country’s socio-economic development

The event will bring together key stakeholders from diverse organizations to engage in meaningful deliberation on SMEs. The sessions will emphasise upon pertinent topics related to sound knowledge about business strategies; innovation in business processes integration of SMEs in the global value chain; challenges and opportunities; international standards; and, adoption of industrial policies and global competitiveness.

On the first day,Mr Anurag Chaturvedi, CEO, Chartered House Tax Consultancy, Dubai and Mr K. Siddhartha Strategic thinker, Geostrategic, Knowledge and Perception Management Consultant will deliberate on Entrepreneurship Education with sub-themes

  1. How to Generate ideas and convert them into business proposition?
  2. Entrepreneurship as a brand – a career and niche

Followed by a workshop on Design Thinking and Innovation in Entrepreneurship by Prof Christopher Abraham, CEO & Head – Dubai Campus Sr. Vice President – Institutional Development Professor of Leadership, Design Thinking & Organizational Behaviour, S P Jain School of Global Management, Dubai.

A key panellist’s Ms Liu Ye Secretary General, China Private Owned Business Association CHINA, Marko Selakovic, Senior Manager, S P Jain School of Global Management, Dubai and Hon. Soomilduth Bholah, Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, – Mauritius will participate in Panel Discussion on Enabling Sustainability through Inspirational Leadership in SMEs. Sub-themes will be as follows

The highlight of the conference will be the WASME SME Excellence Awards 2018, which will recognize the best performers from the SME sector in India and abroad for their contribution to the economy.

Nomination for the following categories has been announced and a standard mechanism will be applied while screenings. Following categories have been identified-

  1. Young Entrepreneur of the Year
  2. Founder of The Year
  3. Start-up of The Year
  4. Woman Entrepreneur
  5. Innovator of The Year
  6. Global Entrepreneur of the Year

In the evening, One Round Table on Innovation in Entrepreneurship: Flaunt your idea for start-ups will be moderated by Dr Silvia Vianello, Director of Innovation, S P Jain School of Global Management, Dubai and Mr Vassoo Putchay – Permanent Secretary, Enterprise and Cooperatives, – Mauritius

The next day will be dedicated to youth. Two technical sessions will be held. One on Accreditation, international Standards and Sustainability Reporting methods for SMEs by Mr K. Siddhartha Scientist and CA Manoj Aggarwal, DGM – Finance in Dabur International Ltd, Dubai followed by How Intercultural Intelligence Can Enhance Entrepreneurial Success by Dr Monica Gallant, Professor, S P Jain School of Global Management, Dubai.

Speaking about the event, Gyan Prakash Agarwal, Secretary General, WASME said, “We are delighted to host the 22nd edition of ICSME, a moment to recognize the role of MSMEs in wealth distribution, income generation, employment, and economic development. Closely aligned with the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, this event focuses on how SMEs can achieve inclusive and sustainable industrialisation while enabling socio-economic prosperity.  We look forward to the participation of global dignitaries from India, Dubai, China, Nigeria, Mauritius, and other countries, transnational MSME experts from the UN, as well as industry players to grace the event. We hope that this year’s event brings about innovative partnerships to drive SME sector growth, and encourages the true sense of entrepreneurship and empowerment in India.”

The event will also provide an invaluable networking opportunity for the participants to strengthen their business contacts and exchange important information on the sector. In addition, concurrent exhibitions will be held alongside the conference. Over 200 participants are expected to attend.
