The urge to confine the Pakistan based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad’s (JeM) chief Masood Azhar gained international recognition soon after the Pulwama attack in India on 14 February where 42 of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel died in the bomb blast, the responsibility of this deadliest attack was taken by Jaish-e-Mohammad.
Jaish-e-Mohammad’s fundamental interest is to separate Kashmir from India through spreading terror and has carried out a large number of attacks in the region. The terror group is also accused of the Indian parliament attack and Pathankot attack, 2001 and 2016 respectively. After the Pulwama attack, India asked the United Nations to consider Masood Azhar in the Global Terrorist list which will limit his movement around the world, putting him under high surveillance in an arms deal and freeze his assets.
However, the matter gained high attention when the trio of world powers joined hands to back India: the US (United States), the UK (United Kingdom) and France to ban the JeM chief, which was further supported by Russia. But China seems to be adamant in its approach towards Indian counter-terrorism practice and have shown a lucid response on the issue condemning not putting Masood Azhar as Global Terrorist. China being a veto-holder in the UNSC has tried to block the way of the trio and India in this regard with technical holds over the issue, one must consider that US, UK, France, Russia and China are permanent members of UNSC. Wondering china’s move, the fact to be noted is that China is an immediate friend with Pakistan. This is not for the first time that China stood in front in the process of backlashing Jaish-e-Mohammad, but it’s been for the fourth time even after looking the joint effort made by the international community against terrorism, stepping towards cross-border peace.
The keynote here is to consider that India has received unprecedented support from the world community in the due passage of time as per what is been said by the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. She further appended that from standing alone in this regard India has good friends in the international community now. However, it is clear that Beijing has else plans for New Delhi, being a key partner with Pakistan to support problems in India just to create a diversion from critical issues as India being the great challenge to China in the region.
