New Delhi.

This Sunday saw enthusiastic participation from avid runners, including Ambassador Melba Pría, to celebrate Mexico’s 207th National Day for a charitable cause. The 5th Dwarka Half-Marathon and Charity Run 2017 was successfully organised yesterday by Coach Ravinder Singh, in association with the Embassy of Mexico in India, as part of ongoing celebrations for the Mexican National Day.

Around 2000 runners participated in four categories: 5K Run, 5K Walkathon, 10K Run and 21.1K Run. The event also saw many school children running with energetic zeal and excitement. The run was held in support of CanSupport Foundation, an India-based NGO that specializes in palliative care.

People celebrations post Half Marathon

A dedicated runner and a determined champion of the cause of cancer patients, Ms. Melba Pría, Ambassador of Mexico to India, ran in the 21.1K category. Before the start of the half-marathon, she handed over a cheque of INR 2 lakh, raised by runners’ participation, to CanSupport Foundation. Ambassador Pría will run the New York Marathon on November 5th to raise funds for CanSupport.

After the race, all finishers were awarded medals engraved with the Mexico artwork and celebrations commenced with music and dance against the backdrop of Mexican motifs. The well-attended event was co-sponsored by Hero Motocorp, Genpact, Venkateshwar Hospital and supported by West Delhi Runners (WDR).
