This is the City of Health, Inspiration and Friendship! The city got this title yet again for capturing an imagination of the most powerful athletes of all – weightlifters! After successfully hosting V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in September 2017, and as recently as September 2018 the International Desert Rally “Amul-Hazar” along the hidden under the layers of sand tracks of the Great Silk Road the country never ceded its spirit to always stay upfront when it comes to continuity in such an area as sports!

These days Ashgabat hosts the IWF World Weightlifting Championships since November 1 and for the next 10 days various competitions among men and women of different weight categories at the excellent sports facilities of the top-class Ashgabat Olympic Complex will continue. These facilities have already proved themselves as full-scale venues capable of managing top-tier sports events, by successfully hosting international sporting events, such as V Asian Games. In order to make sure that the WWC are held up to the international standards, the Organizing Committee has put great efforts during the last several months.

More than 1000 athletes and coaches from over 100 countries as well as hundreds of officials from the International Weightlifting Federation, other sports organizations and media have gathered in Ashgabat to witness new achievements by top world weightlifters.   Events take place at the Martial Arts Arena, which is one of the facilities of the Olympic Complex with rich sporting history.

The Opening Ceremony of the World Weightlifting Championships 2018 was held at the Main Indoor Arena of the Olympic Village.

The Honorable President of Turkmenistan sent a congratulatory letter to the participants of the Championships in Ashgabat. The letter says that the athletes are the Ambassadors of Peace and with their skills and will, they must promote the high ideals of the Olympic spirit in a fair competition at the World Weightlifting Championships. It also mentions that today the World Weightlifting Championships shows to the world how Independent, permanently Neutral Turkmenistan may be seen as an example of its preparedness to host sporting events of truly international significance! Indeed, all the winners will get their free passes to the next level in their careers – Olympic Games!!!

The World Championships competitions are now being broadcasted on ‘Turkmenistan Sport’ Channel, as well as many other international TV channels.
